When negative is positive

As a general rule, we think of things that are “negative” as bad.

We weigh the pros (positives) and cons (negatives) of a situation.

The worst case scenario on your bank or 401K statement would be a negative balance.

You might not mind constructive, but you probably don’t appreciate negative feedback on your performance review.

We’ve probably all had the experience of working with someone whose negative attitude was poisonous to the office environment.

BUT…

If you go for a biopsy, the best possible outcome is a negative test result.

In this one instance, at least… negative is very, very positive.

Which is totally counter-intuitive. But I’ll take it, thanks.
